Signed and Numbered Editions

The special Bindery editions will be truly special

A number of people have contacted us regarding the special Bindery editions of THE ILIAD and THE ODYSSEY with various suggestions about how we could make the special editions even more special and even more attractive to book collectors. After reviewing our options, we have decided to commit to the following two things:

• The special editions will feature an interior number.

• The special editions will be signed by the bookbinder.

We have imitated the method here utilized by the very rare A Bibliography of English Military Books up to 1642 and of Contemporary Foreign Works published in London by Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent & Co. in 1900, as we’ve observed over time that information concerning first editions and special editions tends to disappear if it is not recorded in the books themselves.

And upon reflecting upon our own pride and pleasure in owning both the No. 33 and No. 167 copies of the 250 produced in the first and only edition, we saw no reason to deprive the Bindery backers of a similar sentiment. The numbers will be issued in the order they were received, with the exception of one-book orders that will go to the end of the line so that the vast majority of backers (97 percent) who ordered both books can have a matching set.

There are still 12 days left to order a Special Signed and Numbered Editions of THE ILIAD and THE ODYSSEY. Ideally, we’d like to sell another 150-200 total books or so, as this would permit us to buy the last piece of equipment that will bring us up to speed on the production side.

We also decided that the long-term value of the books would be most enhanced by a signature by the actual bookbinder. After looking at historical rare book options, it’s clear that future generations will care more about who specifically bound the book than about any associated figures.
