Fascinating 👏 Serendipidly, my sis just gifted me 2 exquisite little bird-like porcelain soy dispensers, from Kouraku Kiln 💛. 🤷 i can't cook rice. I am fascinated with the clash of cultures forced by Commodore Perry, in this Meiji period. A GREAT read (abso transported me,) is MUSASHI, by Eiji Yoshikarwa, translated originally, i think, by one of the first Yank consuls to Japan. I've a wonderful, big paperback from kodansha-intl.com . Japan's greatest samurai, what a CRACKER 😘 (discosure: got NO TIES to Nippon... except my selvage denim 😉).

The six books of THE SECRET SCROLLS OF NARUTO by Yoshikawa were some of the first original translations supported by the community here.
